Top five yoga studios in Bali

Ever since Eat, Pray, Love helped establish Ubud as a world-class destination for meditation, yoga and soul searching, Bali has become a hot spot for health-conscious travellers who come to the island seeking inner peace and wellbeing.

New yoga studios are constantly popping up across Bali, allowing yogis to strengthen their practice in some truly jaw-dropping settings, but with so many yoga studios now operating in Bali, how do you know which ones are the best? We’ve practiced our downward dogs and shavasana poses at many of Bali’s yoga shalas to recommend our top five Balinese yoga studios. Whether you’re a dedicated yogi or a first-timer, these stunning yoga studios will provide a backdrop to your practice unlike anything you will find at home, so put on your stretchiest pants and roll out your mat at these inspiring yoga venues.

The Yoga Barn – Ubud

The Yoga Barn is something of an institution in Bali, and no spiritual visit to Ubud would be complete without a stop off in this world-famous yoga amphitheatre. The Yoga Barn has been in operation since 2007, establishing itself as one of the largest yoga and health retreat centres in the whole of South East Asia. It’s open almost every day of the year, with over 15 yoga classes and workshops available each day, offering the chance to practice all kinds of yoga including kundalini, yin, hatha, vinyasa flow, Iyengar, restorative and more. You can complement your yoga practice with gong bath meditation, sound healing or Tibetan bowl meditation, before feeding your soul with one of the many healthy elixirs offered at The Garden Kafe. We highly recommend coming for one of the evening classes, where you can practice in the Yoga Barn’s upstairs open-air pavilion as incense burns and crickets croon by the nearby river.

Power of Now Oasis – Sanur

Power of Now Oasis claims to be Bali’s most unique yoga and meditation studio, and it would be hard to argue. This bamboo yoga pavilion is located on lush grounds just meters away from the golden sands of Sanur Beach, offering a great environment to enjoy the sea breeze as you practice yoga in the open-air space, enjoy an organic tea in the downstairs chill-out area or relax in one of the outdoor hammocks. Classes are taught by both international and local teachers, offering vinyasa flow, hatha, yin and restorative yoga as well as meditation classes and retreats. The only downside is that classes don’t run as regularly as the bigger studios, so you check the timetable (which is updated weekly) to make sure you don’t miss out.

The Practice – Canggu

The Practice is an expertly managed, clean and modern yoga space in Canggu that’s co-owned by a group of friends who each bring their own experience with yoga to the mix. The Practice has a vision to “bring the authentic teachings of yoga back to yoga; both on and off the mat, and to create a physical and virtual place for a conscious community to practice the art, science and philosophy of authentic yoga” and that’s exactly what this place offers. The Practice is all about good vibes and positive energy, with the wooden and bamboo interior providing a real sense of calm. Along with special workshops, this studio offers traditional Moon, Sun and Fire yoga practices along with modern yin and restorative yoga, with classes for beginners and experienced yogis.

Radiantly Alive has been offering beautiful yoga classes in Ubud since 2012, and they must be doing something right because over 100,000 visitors have come to give this place a try during their trips to Bali.
