If you’ve come to Bali seeking health and vitality over cocktails and nightclubs, check out our list of the best health cafes on the island.

The Shady Shack

One of our favourite places to spend a lazy morning in Canggu, The Shady Shack is a charming vegetarian café that sits in a quiet street overlooking the rice paddies. Perpetually busy but always worth the wait, The Shady Shack is known for gorgeous salad bowls that are almost too beautifully presented to eat, with hot options being the Japanese inspired Nori Bowl and the vibrant, nutrient-packed smoothie bowls. Grab a table outside under the mango tree, order yourself a matcha latte and make your way through a healthy menu so drool-worthy you won’t know where to start.

Seminyak’s Café Organic is the epitome of Bondi Beach hipster meets hot Balinese hangout, and you’ll either fall madly in love with this place or leave ranting about the Western gentrification of the island. Café Organik is wildly popular, with more locations planned to spring up across the coast, and you only need to glance at the awe-inspiring meals and drinks coming out of the kitchen to understand why. Café Organic (which has started a movement of health-conscious millennials calling themselves “Garden Gangstas”) offers healthy vegetarian meals with a passion for simple dishes using fresh, locally farmed produce. You’ll find an epic list of super smoothies, fresh juices, all day breakfasts and picturesque smoothie bowls, with some of the best coffee in Bali.

Betelnut Café

No trip to Echo Beach would be complete without a pit stop at Betelnut Café, one of the pioneering health eateries and hippie hangouts in Canggu. This rustic looking wooden shack is just across the road from Deus, and is heavily frequented by surfies, expats, families and the usual hipster crowds. Not strictly devoted to clean eating and healthy treats, Betelnut is a good choice if you’re hunting for tropical fruit and wheatgrass shots while your buddies are frothing for a Bintang and burgers. Try the Big Betelnut for a combination of four of the daily special salads, or sink your teeth into the mouth-watering Mexican menu.
